The Golf 8 continues to give the main plant in Wolfsburg a headache. According to information in the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” from corporate circles, the automobile manufacturer Volkswagen wants to recall all models of the new Golf. The trigger is again problems in the software control for the infotainment system. The navigation sometimes leads to total failures.
In May, VW had to recall over 30,000 units of the newly produced Golf 8. There were software problems here too and the faulty emergency assistant had to be updated. Even during the manufacture of the Golf 8, production errors repeatedly occurred at the main plant in Wolfsburg, as NewsABC.net reported.
The manufacturer would like to eliminate the recurring software problems with a software update. According to information from Volkswagen, the update includes the inertia and reaction to touch inputs in the infotainment system, the functional reliability of assistance systems such as the reversing camera and parking aid as well as the display of incomprehensible error messages.
The campaign affected the first 56,000 vehicles delivered – 26,000 of them in Germany alone. The action should last a day. Customers receive a free rental car and a service voucher, according to the company. New vehicles that have been delivered since July 20, 2020 are not affected by the campaign.
The measure is not a recall ordered by the Federal Motor Transport Authority, but a voluntary measure by the manufacturer. Golf customers may soon be informed of the promotion by letter.
