Movies & Series

New to stream from this week: New seasons ‘Fargo’ & ‘For All Mankind’, ‘Tribes Of Europe’ and ‘Behind Her Eyes’ and ‘The Muppet Show’

Spring is in the country, or that’s how it feels for a while. Time for even more walks. Sunshine on your head. And the barbecue that is taken from the stable. Then, when night falls, make a cup of tea, crawl under a blanket and disappear into a series or a movie. And this week’s new offerings to add to that are numerous.

Series

Three seasons of the successful series Fargo can be found on Netflix, but the fourth season can be seen first on Canvas with us. For those who want to catch up with the entire series: all four seasons of the series are now available on VRT NOW, the streaming service of the public broadcaster.

This fourth season is set in the 1950s in Kansas City. There, a war is raging between the Italian mafia and an African-American crime group that has fled racial segregation in the South. This season, none other than comedian Chris Rock will star, an experience as new to him as it is to us.

AppleTV + launches it this week second season from For All Mankind, a series that has so far remained under the radar, unjustly. The series explores what the world would be like if not America, but Russia would have been the first country to put a human on the moon. The second season makes a leap of time to 1983. Ronald Reagan is president, the Cold War is still raging. The United States and the Soviet Union compete against each other in a battle for the moon. NASA is being militarized.

Which Netflix must bet on European titles, that is now clear. A co-production with our own VRT was recently announced. This week a lot of hope is focused on the new German Tribes Of Europe. This series takes place in Europe in 2074. In 2029 a cyber war broke out that left the world without power. Since then, a war has raged between four tribes.

The other new Netflix series B.ehind Her Eyes is a thriller with some erotic tension in it, a genre that Netflix is not strange. We follow Louise, a single mother who meets a mysterious man in a bar. Not much later she discovers that it is about David, not only a married man, but also her boss. And it doesn’t stop there, because Louise also becomes good friends with David’s wife Adele. Louise is quietly initiated into the web of lies that turns out to be David and Adele’s marriage.

Great crowds this week at the series, because of the Italian crime series Gomorrah is a fourth season added on Netflix and also the first twee seasons of the hospital series New Amsterdam can be viewed there.

On Streamz is Taboo after a long absence, the 2017 series that actor Tom Hardy co-wrote with his father and Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight. Tom Hardy himself plays the long-thought dead James Keziah Delaney, until he returns home from Africa to London in the year 1814. He wants to claim the legacy of his father, who headed a shipbuilding empire, and start a new life. However, his father’s legacy turns out to be a real poison cup.

Something less grim The Crew, a new comedy series Netflix set in the garage of a NASCAR crew. But we prefer to do this ourselves Disney + value five original seasons from The Muppet Show – broadcast from 1976 to 1981 – have been added. That’s no less than 120 episodes (!) Of fun with Fozzie, Gonzo, Kermit, Miss Piggy and professional grouchers Statler and Waldorf.

New movies

Still up Disney + is the new movie Flora & The Fantastic Unicorn, Flora & Ulysses in English. This film tells the story of Flora, a comic book enthusiast who rescues a squirrel who, as a superhero, offers hope and wonder to the family.

Older movies

Furthermore, especially a lot of films that are part of film series. On Netflix to be Jurassic World (2015), Jurassic Park (1993) and Jurassic Park III (2001) added. Those who also want to watch Jurassic Park: The Lost World (1997) can find it at Amazon Prime wherever the whole Jurassic Parkseries is available.

Amazon Prime does the same with the The Hunger Gamesseries: The Hunger Games (2012), The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (2013) and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2 (2015) have been added to the offer there, but The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 (2014) is nowhere to be found. The full film series is available at Netflix.

Silence Of The Lambs these days celebrated his 30th birthday. Yet it is nowhere to be found on the streaming services. The other parts of the trilogy can be viewed: Red Dragon (2002) was already on Netflix and can now also be seen on Amazon Prime. Also Hannibal (2001) can be found on Amazon Prime. Yet again dive into the DVD cabinet for Silence Of The Lambs? The entire Back To The Futuretrilogy is available. Now Back To The Future II (1989) has been added to Amazon Prime, the three films can be viewed there.

A number of Oscar favorites have also been added to Amazon Prime: the story of the young pianist Wladyslaw Szpilman and how it fares in Warsaw during the Second World War continues to move. The road to The Pianist (2002) is open. It’s brilliant 12 Years A Slave (2013) and the adventures of Solomon Northup can also be followed on that streaming service and Edward Norton gives a masterclass in acting in American History X from 1998.

There weren’t any Oscars for Al Pacino or Scarface (1983), but that doesn’t make the film any less legendary. Brian De Palma’s classic script by Oliver Stone can now be found on Netflix. If you want it all a bit lighter, we recommend Desperado (1995), a Robert Rodriguez film in which a young Antonio Banderas is a traveling musician who is on his way to his girlfriend’s murderer with a suitcase full of weapons. No high-quality art, but entertainment, now available at Netflix.

From the same year and equally entertaining Babe (1995). The movie a sweet and naive piglet who wants to keep his fate in his own hands is now over Netflix to find. Raised by Fly the sheepdog, Babe thinks and acts like a dog, only he is not accepted as a dog.

Finally, we also want to The 40-Year Old Virgin (2005) with an outstanding Steve Carrell as Andy, a conservative, shy man and still a virgin. When his friends find out about this, they do everything they can to find him a wife. Andy plays along but ends up in one disastrous situation after another. Until he gets into a relationship with Trish, a woman with three children. Judd Apatow’s movie that marked Steve Carrell’s big movie breakthrough is now on Netflix to find.

Docu

And then there is Amend: The Fight For America on Netflix, a solid six-hour history by presenter and producer Will Smith. He examines the state of the equality struggle in the United States, why so little is actually changing and whether things will ever turn out all right.

Smith stages scientists and activists, has famous actors and actresses recite quotes from important historical documents, uses many archival footage, and paints a picture of the significant events and conflicts that have made America what it is today since the abolition of slavery. If the American news of recent months and years has taught us anything, it is that this series should be mandatory viewing.
