Whatsapp has released a new update of its Messenger app version 2.22.21.3 for the Google Play beta program. This update already contains the configuration of an avatar and the associated functions that are planned for a future update of the app, as reported by WABetaInfo.
The site had already reported in advance that Whatsapp was working on avatars that should represent a new way in which users can present themselves in Messenger – similar to what has been possible on other platforms for a long time. For example with Snapchat or the Memojis used by Apple. The avatars should also be able to be used as masks for video calls and as stickers. A little more will be revealed in the new beta:

In the screenshot you can see how Whatsapp automatically created its own sticker pack based on the configured avatar for the user. With these personalized stickers it will be possible in the future to express yourself accordingly in chats and groups. In the future it should also be possible to use avatars as profile photos.
The ability to create an avatar is still under development, so there is no exact launch date for the new feature yet. If there is more information about this on the web or from Whatsapp, we will of course report about it. In the screenshots, however, the function seems to be well advanced. The avatars for Whatsapp shouldn’t be too long in coming.
