If you come across the term “NSFW” on the Internet, be careful. The abbreviation is widespread in net jargon and stands for the English expression “not safe for work”, ie not suitable for work. It is often used to mark media that depict sensitive content and should therefore not necessarily be opened in front of colleagues.
NSFW identifies sensitive content
You can find the abbreviation NSFW quite often, especially on social news portals such as Reddit or 9GAG. There is even a separate category that focuses exclusively on NSFW content. Usually this includes a lot of bare skin and therefore not entirely adult images. So be careful whenever you see these four letters and never open files like this when your supervisors or children are within reach.

Of course, it doesn’t always have to be something offensive. If you want to send a colleague a private link or a picture that has nothing to do with work, that’s basically NSFW too. Most of the time, however, the abbreviation implies something offensive, so you should use it carefully, if at all.
