Opel Astra against VW Golf: the hybrid versions in the first comparison

Strong appearance: The Astra can keep up very well with the Golf in terms of looks – it makes a thoroughly impressive impression.
The Astra is imposing and independent

Better to use: In the new Opel Astra we still find real buttons and a rotary control – unfortunately the Golf lacks that.
Classic operation is much more intuitive

It’s just a pity that you have to look for the somewhat small temperature display on the central screen of the Astra. The digital instrument cluster, on the other hand, pleases with its simple operation and clear display. The only thing we miss is a classic view with round instruments like in the Golf. With both, the voice control can be activated by voice command. Everything works to some extent, but a little better in Wolfsburg. In addition, the Opel system does not understand who is speaking. The driver’s buttocks always warm up when the “seat heating on” command is given. The Golf, on the other hand, also recognizes when the passenger has cold buttocks.
More important: the place in the second row. The Golf has more to offer despite being shorter and having a shorter wheelbase. The flatter rear and side windows of the Astra also restrict all-round visibility and the feeling of space – we already know this from the 308.

Faster: From a speed of 130, the Golf pulls away from its competitor. The drive is always acoustically present over and over strokes.
With performance advantage, the Golf is faster

Neat: The Astra is a good all-rounder when it comes to tuning, but the Golf leaves a slightly more confident impression
When it comes to the chassis, the Opel is a little behind
The all-round properties of the Astra chassis are still impressive, even if the Opel takes short bumps in particular a little stiffer. Thoroughly polished, this new Astra, which certainly does not have to be waved off the stage after the first audition. Thanks to the lower costs, it ends up almost level with its archrival. Full of excitement we say: Next, please! And mean the next test.
