Stellantis had already presented the fuel cell drive at the end of March 2021. The specialty: It is a plug-in hybrid system. In addition to the 45 kW fuel cell, the cars also have a 10.5 kWh battery; an electric motor with a power of up to 100 kW is driven. When starting or driving slowly, the battery is used as a power source, while normal driving uses the fuel cell – and both energy sources work together when accelerating. The system should enable a range of up to 400 kilometers, and refueling with hydrogen will only take three minutes.

The transporter’s battery can be charged by the fuel cell

As with other plug-in hybrid models, the battery can be charged by plug or by the fuel cell and should allow a range of a maximum of 50 kilometers. Although two energy stores are used with this drive, the transporters should still offer enough space: The load space has a capacity of 6.1 cubic metersbecause the platform of the fully electric models is used and the hydrogen tanks fill the space of the otherwise larger battery in the vehicle floor.
