The six-part series will be based on the autobiography of Steve Jones, guitarist for the band. Director Danny Boyle, who won an Oscar for directing Slumdog Millionaire, has been asked as a director and producer. In response to Variety he says he is very enthusiastic about the upcoming project.
According to Boyle – who also has movie titles like Yesterday (2019), The Beach (2000) and Trainspotting (1996) to his name – the band has revolutionized British culture. “The moment The Sex Pistols became famous is when British culture was forever different. Young people were suddenly on stage and vented their anger, that was because of the band. ”
Many British actors have been cast to play roles in the new series, including Toby Wallace as Steve Jones and Anson Boon as John Lydon – aka Johnny Rotten. The first filming is scheduled for March 7. The series will air on FX later this year.
