Red carpet outfits with a lot of distance. The Oscars 2021 took place this year despite the global corona pandemic, but much smaller than usual. Instead of the huge Dolby Theater, the coveted film award ceremony was held in the historic Union Station in Los Angeles. The winning film of the evening was the road movie “Nomadland”. He was not only honored in the categories of best film and best female lead (Frances McDormand). The Chinese director Chloé Zhao also received a trophy, namely that for the best director. Zhao is the first Woman of Color, the first Chinese woman and the second woman ever to receive this award.

Where can you stream “Nomadland” right now in Germany?

In Germany you still have to wait for the cinema release, but there is a way you can watch the Oscar winner now. To be more precise, two. You can register with the US streaming service Hulu and watch the film in the media library using the VPN service. However, since registering with the provider is quite complicated, we recommend option two: Disney Plus. The streaming platform already exists in Germany, so creating an account is quick and easy. The trick: Disney Plus Canada has already stored “Nomadland” in its media library, even with a German soundtrack! You can also bypass the national border here with a VPN service.

Wondering what VPN is exactly? In this article we explain how to set up such a service on your device:

What is “Nomadland” about?

Fern is a widow. She lost her husband and home in Nevada. That’s why she decides to live in a van. With the converted car, her new home, she drives through the western United States. She earns money on the route with part-time jobs. In the process, she gets to know a wide variety of people – and: She is not the only nomad. Life in the van gives Fran flexibility and a good portion of freedom, but it also presents her with unexpected challenges.
