Some users look up vacation dates on the Internet or enter them manually in Outlook. However, websites like www.schulferien.org offer the dates of the individual federal states conveniently as ICS files that you simply have to import into Outlook.
Outlook: Import vacation dates and display them on the PC
NewsABC.net the file for your federal state (www.schulferien.org/deutschland/ical) and open it in Outlook “File -> Open and Export”. Now click on “Import / Export”, mark “Import iCalendar (ICS) or vCalendar file (VCS)”, confirm with “Next” and insert the downloaded ICS file using the Explorer overview. Outlook will then ask you whether you want to open the file as a new calendar or import the items into your calendar. If you now click on “Open new calendar”, the program creates an additional calendar for the vacation dates only and displays it next to your current calendar. In the default setting, this is called “Untitled”, after clicking the right mouse button on the title bar and selecting “Rename Calendar” you can give it a new name such as “School Holidays” in the navigation bar at the bottom left.
When importing an ICS calendar file, you can create a new calendar in Outlook or transfer the appointments to the existing calendar.
On the other hand, if you click on “Import” when asked by Outlook, the program will transfer the school holidays to your own calendar. Note, however, that this import cannot be reversed. You can only delete the appointments manually.
