Overview: All consumer improvements over the last few months






Important improvement for consumers: These regulations came into force in the last few months and strengthen your rights as a customer. Plus: This applies from July 1st!

Since March 1st: Only 1 month notice period left

For contracts concluded after March 1, 2022,

shorter notice periods apply. After the minimum contract period has expired, you can cancel within one month and you are no longer automatically bound for another year if you forget to cancel in good time before the end of the contract period.

The 1-month notice period has been in effect for Internet and mobile phone contracts for a long time. This one-month notice period is just one of the many innovations in the new version of the Telecommunications Act (TKG), which came into force on December 1, 2021. Our overview of the innovations:

Since May 28: Telephone advertising only with documented consent

From May 28, 2022, companies that advertise by phone must document the express consent of the person called and keep this consent for five years, as the consumer advocates write. Violations are subject to fines. This should better protect you from unwanted advertising calls.

From July 1st: Cancellation button

The consumer center of Rhineland-Palatinate points out an important innovation that will come to consumers on July 1st, 2022: the online cancellation button. This means that companies that offer the conclusion of fixed-term contracts on their website must also set up a cancellation button on their website from July 1, 2022.

Customers can then from 1.7. Contracts concluded online can be easily terminated online using this button. This eliminates the often tedious detour via other communication channels such as letters, faxes or e-mails. According to the consumer advocates, this applies to all possible types of fixed-term contracts, such as membership in the gym or a magazine subscription.
