Talk show host On 1 and television maker Paul de Leeuw is under fire. There has long been dissatisfaction with his performance as a talk show host and the way he fulfills that role, but last Friday’s broadcast was the straw that broke the bucket.
During the broadcast of On 1 TV virologist Ab Osterhaus sat down to talk about the corona policy that China is currently pursuing. “The strategy used in China has worked. Very strict and very hard about it ”, Osterhaus began. “I think it’s really great. They receive a number of corona cases and immediately ensure that the situation is under control. That means testing, testing, testing… we didn’t do that in Europe. ”
Mindset of Asians
De Leeuw then uses Osterhaus’s explanation to begin with ‘the mentality of Asian people’. “This is also about the mentality of Asian people. They immediately do what the boss says. ” That comment by De Leeuw went completely wrong with many people.
Osterhaus himself was not sure how to respond to that comment. “Oh yes?” Asked Osterhaus aloud. “I do not know. I don’t know if that’s the mindset of Asian people. The government simply does not accept no for an answer, ”Osterhaus continued.
Social media went wild in response to De Leeuw’s comment. “Can this racist nonsense finally stop?” Someone wonders. Yet another puts it: “Bee On 1 Paul de Leeuw is now talking ‘about the mentality of Asian people’. I’m going to sleep.”
The interview with Matthijs is exemplary for the chaos that Astrid Joosten and Paul de Leeuw create together. Talking through each other, in a hurry, from one thing to the other, and Paul overruling one question from Astrid with another question. Stop this duo @ op1npo. # op1npo pic.twitter.com/Kr8WRraBi0

Paul de Leeuw @ op1npo: ‘That is the mentality of the Asian man. He immediately does what the boss says. ‘
Could this racist nonsense finally end?

It is not the first time that De Leeuw has been under fire for his role as a talk show host. He was previously accused of not letting guests talk, poorly asking questions and trying to attract the broadcast by means of the comments he makes.
