200 hp! Is the Peugeot 208 GTi a tip as a used one, or does the bad awakening come?

The 1.6-series Turbo already presses under 2000 tours. The 208 PS version delivers more torque, but only pushes later.

Not far from the dealer, Toyota Dello in Ahrensburg (near Hamburg), there are winding country roads where we let the 270 Newton meter 1.6 a bit off the leash. The sound fits the pious lamb appearance, acoustic tamper is alien to the turbo four-cylinder. No complaints from our side about it, instead recognition that the engine already delivers decent thrust below 2000 revs and does not appear to be constricted even at speeds beyond the 6000 mark. The 208 GTi is always shifted manually. Working on the gear lever, like the steering, is not an ultra-precise matter. But the gears slide in well from the first to the sixth. All in all, driving feels like a well-rounded thing. What is also due to the chassis, which we would not have assumed excessive hardness, it would have been installed in the 68 with 68 hp.

In a narrower curve it suddenly tingles in your stomach. Because the innocent GTi suddenly cheeky turns the bottom. Again, but now without ESP (attention, really means out here!). In fact, the chassis is designed to oversteer so that you have to take the countersteer yourself without electronic support if you don’t want to be overtaken by your own rear. There’s not that much excitement in the Polo GTI. Peugeot even added later. As the GTi by Peugeot Sport, the 208 really mutates into an evil devil that uses less than 20,000 euros, thanks to harder chassis, seat shells, limited slip differential, special ESP tuning and Brembo brakes.

Conclusion by Stefan Novitski: The 208 GTi looks inconspicuous and doesn’t overdo it with its sportiness. The powerful engine and the fun driving behavior ensure long-lasting enthusiasm. Despite the high new price, the processing is only mediocre. Judgment: 3.5 out of five points.
