Sydney Ferbrache is currently on her way to Yellowstone National Park in the USA. For them, the 9,000 square kilometer park means more than just gorges and nature; it is the place where she has felt most free in her life so far.

When she shifted her life full time in her van, the first destination on her trip was the national park. Two and a half years later, she visits the park for the first time.

Countless walks, new friendships and personal growth are positive side effects of their lifestyle. However, there are also some less positive aspects: Your van has now driven 210,000 kilometers and she lives with some broken equipment. She has also showered outdoors for the past two years.

“From a distance the van looks nice and flawless. But if you look at things up close, you will see that a lot is literally falling apart and hanging by a thread, ”she says. Nevertheless, the 25-year-old would absolutely not want to change her lifestyle.

A few years ago Ferbrache was still working full-time as a restaurant manager in Chicago and was also doing college. After years of 70-hour weeks, Ferbrache left the industry.

She stumbled upon van life info online and started reading blogs, watching videos, and doing research. Then she bought and renovated a Ford Transit and made her way to Yellowstone National Park with her puppy Ella.

After more than two years and another dog in the family, Ferbrache is still out and about in her van. During this time, she has found that social media often features an embellished version of reality.

“It’s a good life. The feeling of driving into the mountains and having everything to yourself is incredibly liberating – and that’s what brings more and more people to this lifestyle, ”she says. “But there is also another side of things that is very real.”

Ferbrache runs a blog and does a podcast. She discusses her life in the van very frankly on both channels. She recently took her Tiktok followers on a “realistic van tour”.

With Insider, she has now shared some aspects of life that you will rarely see on social media like Instagram. We show them to you in the picture gallery.
