The fifteenth stage of the Tour de France ends on Sunday on the Grand Colombier, the second col of the outside category after the Port des Balès in the first Pyrenees stage. Especially with an uphill finish, the classification riders cannot hide. Anyone who wants to attack leader Primoz Roglic will do so on a mountain where the public is not welcome due to the corona measures.
Roglic, the Slovenian from Jumbo-Visma, seems to have to fear his fellow countryman Tadej Pogacar for the time being. The difference between the two in the rankings is 44 seconds. Colombian Egan Bernal, last year’s Tour winner, is third at 59 seconds.
The stage starts around 12.30 from Lyon, after which it takes a while before the mountains come. Only after about 100 kilometers is the Montée de la Selle de Fromentel, with just below the top parts with a gradient of more than 20 percent. The Col de la Biche is the next hurdle. Both mountains are classified as first category climbs. In the last 17 kilometers, it goes uphill to the top of the Grand Colombier, at an altitude of 1501 meters. It is the third time that the mountain has been included in the route schedule, the first time as an arrival location. the finish is expected at half past five.
