The speculation is over: The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 RS comes – and how! Of the first Cayman with RS abbreviation has just before his World premiere in November 2021 delivered a top time on the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring. The Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 is on the price list for at least 98,739 euros, a 911 GT3 starts at 170,969 euros – the GT4 RS should be located almost exactly in the middle. AUTO BILD suspects that Base price over 130,000 euros will lie.

On the Nordschleife, the RS is 23.6 seconds faster than a 718 Cayman GT4

It won’t be long until the world premiere of the 718 Cayman GT4 RS in November 2021. In order to fuel the anticipation even further, Andreas Preuninger, Head of GT Vehicles at Porsche, promises the 718 Cayman GT4 RS is “the ultimate driving pleasure machine”. A lightly camouflaged production vehicle recently impressively demonstrated that this is a damn fast machine for driving pleasure, when the new, 20.832-kilometer version of the North loop in 7: 09.300 minutes circled. The earlier, slightly shorter Nordschleife variant has a time of 7: 04.511 minutes – 23.6 seconds faster than a 718 Cayman GT4.

23.6 seconds faster than the 420 hp 718 Cayman GT4 on the Nordschleife – that’s an announcement!

With the exception of the racing seat to protect the driver, the GT4 RS was a standard vehicle – this was confirmed by a notary. Behind the wheel of the one with the optionally available Michelin Sport Cup 2 R equipped Porsche sat development driver Jörg Bergmeister. He is enthusiastic about the GT 4 RS: “It’s one of the sharpest cars that Porsche has ever developed.”

Gooseneck rear wing and additional air inlets

Visually, the GT4 RS goes one better in all respects. The mid-engine sports car gets one XXL rear wing in gooseneck design, similar to that of the big brother 911 (992) GT3. The front hood carries so-called Naca louvers and should be made of carbon, because Porsche promises more aerodynamic aids and lightweight components compared to the 718 Cayman GT4. Also the Central locking rims are new. The Louvers in the front fenders, which are used to ventilate the wheel arches, are barely recognizable because they are still taped off. All the better to see them are additional ventilation gills in the rear side windowsthat are supposed to supply the mid-engine with more cooling air.

Where we are at engine are: There could be a little surprise give. Instead of the six-cylinder boxer from the 718 Cayman GT4, it looks like it is GT4 RS the four-liter vacuum cleaner from the 992 GT3 inherit. How do we get that? The video of the set-up drives gives several clues: The GT4 RS in the video rotates up to almost 9000 rpm and thus significantly higher than the 718 Cayman GT4 (maximum 8000 rpm). Up to 500 hp the GT4 RS should come pretty close to the GT3, but Porsche is already working on the new GT3 RS at the same time.
