Contractors and subcontractors who work for the company are said to commit this fraud on a structural basis. For example, drivers have to work long hours, they are underpaid and there may be bogus self-employment. Corona measures are also not always adhered to. In addition to PostNL and the British GLS, a number of subcontractors have also been summoned.
In February it was announced that the Belgian tax inspection service BBI is investigating subcontractors who deliver parcels for PostNL in Belgium and do not pay VAT or taxes. Internal documents even discovered the names of companies that had already been declared bankrupt and still delivered parcels for PostNL as recognized subcontractors in Belgium.
PostNL has confirmed to the newspaper that the company has been summoned with regard to “investigations in the logistics sector into collaborations with delivery entrepreneurs”, De Tijd writes. PostNL says it is fully cooperating but does not want to go into the matter further. GLS was not yet available to the newspaper for comment.
