Put together a cheap gaming PC: The best hardware in every price range

A good gaming PC that you can use to play your favorite games doesn’t have to cost a lot. We show you how you can put together a gaming calculator for your requirements as cheaply as possible. For this we give example configurations in price ranges such as 300, 500, 800 or 1000 euros – including recommendations for gaming peripherals.

A DIY PC usually offers the best price-performance ratio – and you can tailor the hardware perfectly to your requirements. But putting together the cheapest and best hardware is not always easy. The graphics card market in particular is very confusing due to the countless models available and the prices change daily. To guarantee that you get the best performance for your money, we have configured gaming PCs for you in a wide range of price categories, such as 300, 500, 800 or 1000 euros. For the best gaming experience, we also recommend buying gaming monitors, gaming mice, gaming keyboards and gaming headsets

. In order to keep the configurations up to date, PC-WELT updates the product links weekly.

Note:

As the prices and availability of products change daily, the hardware linked by us may no longer be available or may be available at a different price than that specified by us.

All our compilations are only a recommendation, which aims at the best possible gaming performance in the respective price range. If you need more storage space and RAM or simply attach great importance to a nice look with RGB lighting, you can of course adapt our compilations accordingly.

If you want to adopt one of our configurations 1: 1, you only have to click on the link “to the shopping cart” at the end of the corresponding table, which will direct you to Mindfactory.

Which gaming PC is best suited for which PC game?

The following table shows you which graphics card you need for which game and the link that leads you to the corresponding gaming PC configuration with this or a better graphics card. We differentiate between single player titles like Red Dead Redemption 2 or The Witcher 3 and multiplayer games like CoD Modern Warfare or Fortnite. In the former, our bar is at least 60 frames per second. Competitive games benefit from higher FPS numbers, which is why we also provide a PC recommendation that achieves at least 144 FPS. A monitor with a correspondingly high refresh rate is a basic requirement for this.

A gaming PC for just 300 euros? This is made possible by the APUs from AMD, which came onto the market in early 2018 and are now already available in the second edition. An accelerated processing unit contains not only a main processor, but also a coprocessor. In the case of the Ryzen 3 3200G, this is a Vega 8 GPU that is capable of accelerating games in HD (1280 x 720) and sometimes even in Full HD (1920 x 1080) to over 60 frames per second. The included processor cooler also offers enough cooling power that you can overclock the CPU and the integrated GPU, which gives you up to ten percent more power. The PC is therefore suitable for everyone who mainly works with their PC and only wants to gamble occasionally without high demands on the graphics settings or especially want to play older games. If the gaming performance is no longer sufficient in the future, the power supply is also sufficiently dimensioned to retrofit a dedicated graphics card.

400 euros is currently a rather unfavorable amount for a gaming PC, as the prices for entry-level graphics cards and processors have risen somewhat in recent months. For this reason, our configuration is almost identical to that of the € 300 gaming PC. They differ only in the double and slightly faster RAM and the double SSD. Unfortunately, you cannot expect more gaming performance compared to our 300 euro compilation. If you are ready to increase your budget to around 450 euro, you should look for a combination of an Intel Core i3-9100F and an AMD Radeon RX 570 8GB. The investment of an additional 50 euros would bring an additional performance of over 100 percent in games.

With our gaming PC for € 500 you can play all current games with a smooth 60 FPS, but you have to reduce the graphics settings to low to medium. For example, in Red Dead Redemption 2 you get 65-70 FPS with medium settings, in the new CoD Modern Warfare it is around 65 FPS even with Ultra settings. In competitive games like PUBG or Fortnite, the built-in RX 570 8GB manages around 100 frames per second at high settings. Thanks to the 16 GB RAM and the Hexa-Core Ryzen 5 1600 [12nm] – which you can even overclock – the PC is also future-proof, so nothing stands in the way of a graphics card upgrade in two to three years.

Important NOTE:

Since the AMD Ryzen 5 1600 [12nm] (AF in the product name) is currently not available from Mindfactory, the previous model is in the shopping cart, you can check the availability of the CPU via the link under “Processor”.

Our configuration of the 600 Euro gaming PC is the same as that of the model for 500 Euro with one significant difference: the graphics card. The GTX 1660 SUPER is ideal for full HD gaming with a 144 Hz G-Sync monitor. In competitive games like Fortnite or PUBG, the GPU achieves 140-150 frames per second. You can enjoy all current AAA titles with at least high settings, in most games you can even expect 80-90 FPS with ultra settings, such as in Far Cry 5 or Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Thanks to the AM4 platform, there is nothing to be said against a future CPU, GPU or RAM upgrade.

For € 100 more, we exchange four components for the € 700 gaming PC. The mainboard AsRock B450M Pro4 offers a better power supply, an additional M.2 slot (but only SATA speed) and USB 3.1 Type-A and Type-C. The main memory clocks 200 MHz higher and the CPU upgrade on the Ryzen 5 2600 delivers a bit more gaming performance. However, the graphics card in the form of the AMD Radeon RX 5600XT is responsible for the greatest performance increase. Compared to the GTX 1660 SUPER, this calculates on average a good 15 percent faster, which makes our configuration ideal for Full HD gaming with ultra settings. As with the cheaper PCs, you can easily upgrade the hardware in a few years due to the hardware you choose.

With our gaming PC for 800 euros, you can choose whether you prefer to play in Full HD or WQHD. The Ryzen 5 3600 comes from AMD’s current Zen 2 generation and offers a very good price-performance ratio. The CPU upgrade delivers ten to 15 percent more performance in games. We also give the CPU a better cooler, which allows moderate overclocking. The Radeon RX 5700 from AMD is responsible for another 12 percent increase in performance. On top of that, the video memory of the graphics card with 8 GB is also large enough for WQHD gaming. All in all, with our 800 Euro configuration you can either play all current games in Full HD with ultra settings or in WQHD with medium to high settings. In the worst case scenario, even this PC only draws 300 watts from the socket, which is why the 450 watt power supply from Corsair is still completely sufficient.

Our 900 Euro gaming PC is aimed at everyone who wants to play in WQHD in the highest settings. Thanks to the AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT, you only have to reduce the settings to high in very few games. Even in the extremely demanding games Red Dead Redemption 2 (53 FPS) and Metro Exodus (55 FPS), the gaming PC in WQHD manages almost 60 frames per second at the highest settings. The 500 watt power supply from Seasonic delivers sufficient power, which also has an 80 PLUS Gold certification and is therefore very energy-efficient. For the case, we switch to the higher-quality Fractal Design Focus G, which is available in different colors with two illuminated fans.

The 1000 Euro gaming PC does not offer a large increase in gaming performance compared to our model for 900 Euro, but it is much more future-proof. We use the Octa-Core Ryzen 7 3700X for the CPU. In a somewhat modified form with a lower clock rate, this should also be installed in the upcoming Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles. Since game developers are always guided by console performance, the AMD processor is guaranteed to be sufficient until the next but one generation of consoles is released. Our 1000 euro configuration with the AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT provides enough power to be able to play almost all games in WQHD with ultra settings at at least 60 FPS.

In our configuration of the gaming PC for 1250 euros, we rely on a Gigabyte B450 Aorus Pro for the mainboard. This offers a better power supply for overclocking, support of higher clocked RAM, passively cooled M.2 slots and RGB lighting. An AMD Ryzen 7 3700X with 16 GB RAM at 3200 MHz is also used. In cooperation with the GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER, the gaming PC delivers enough power to play all games in WQHD smoothly with maximum details. The graphics card also masters real-time ray tracing for an even more immersive gaming experience. However, you have to reduce the graphics settings a bit. The operating system and a few games can be stored on the very fast 500 GB NVMe SSD. Our Seasonic 500 watt power supply is 80 PLUS Gold certified. One of the most popular cases, the Pure Base 500 from be quiet !, is used as the housing.

For 1500 euros you can get a gaming PC that is UHD compatible. While we leave the mainboard, the CPU and the RAM unchanged, we use an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER as a GPU. In online shooters like Battlefield V or CoD Modern Warfare, the graphics card manages to calculate over 60 frames per second at the highest settings. With AAA titles like Red Dead Redemption 2, on the other hand, it is only enough for medium to high settings at 3840 x 2160 pixels. When ray tracing is activated, you can play smoothly in WQHD with high to ultra settings. The size of the SSD doubles to 1 TB. One of the best value for money air coolers, a Scythe Mugen 5, is used to cool the CPU. For the power supply, we rely on a fully modular 550 watt power supply with Gold certification from Seasonic.

The currently fastest gaming processor, an Intel Core i9-9900K, is used in the compilation of the 1750 Euro gaming PC. Because of the Intel CPU, we use a Z390 mainboard from MSI. The rest of the configuration with RTX 2080 SUPER, 16 GB RAM at 3200 MHz and 1 TB NVMe SSD remains the same compared to the 1500 Euro model. Accordingly, you can play well in UHD, even if you have to reduce the settings to medium or high depending on the game. The configured CPU cooler Scythe Mugen 5 ensures that you can overclock the CPU if necessary. Thanks to the 550 watt power supply with Gold-PLUS certification from Seasonic, the PC works with a high degree of efficiency.

Of course, the currently fastest gaming graphics card, the Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, should not be missing from the 2000 Euro gaming PC. Since this alone eats up more than half of the budget, we have to resort to the Ryzen 7 3700X for the processor, since it is significantly cheaper than Intel’s Core i9-9900K. With the high resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels, the CPU only plays a subordinate role anyway, since the GPU is the limiting factor. The rest of the configuration consists of 32 GB of RAM, a 1 TB NVMe SSD and a 550 Watt Gold PLUS power supply. With our configuration for 2000 euros you can play many games in UHD with at least 60 frames per second at the highest settings. But even with the currently best gaming GPU, you sometimes have to reduce the settings to high.

At the
