Quick check: Is your PC ready for Windows 11 22H2 (fall 2022 update)?

You can now easily check whether your Windows 10 or Windows 11 PC is fit for Windows 11 22H2. That’s how it’s done.

Microsoft will deliver the next major feature update for Windows 11 in autumn 2022. It’s called Windows 11 22H2. Although the hardware requirements are likely to remain almost unchanged compared to the current Windows 11, according to Windowslatest you can still play it safe and check now whether your PC is compatible with the upcoming autumn update for Windows 11 (for Windows 10 users this check makes sense anyway). Microsoft has released a registry key that you can use to check this now.

To check if your Windows machine is compatible for Windows 11 22H2:

1. Open the Windows Registry Editor on the computer.

2. In the Registry Editor, click on the address bar and remove the address

3. Go to ComputerHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindows NTCurrentVersionAppCompatFlagsTargetVersionUpgradeExperienceIndicators

4. To check compatibility with 22H2, open the “NI22H2” entry. “NI” stands for “nickel” while “22H2” represents the updated version.

5. If you double click on the value, you will see “RedReason”. If its value is “NONE”, it means that your computer is ready for the autumn update. So Microsoft will not block the download of Windows 11 22H2.

6. If you see a different value, then your computer is not ready for the autumn update. The value depends on the compatibility issue. For example, if your computer does not meet the hardware requirements, then “TPM UEFISecureBoot” is displayed in the “RedReason” field.

If, on the other hand, the update is prevented by a specific app, a message will also appear. And if “SystemDriveTooFull” has the value “1”, then this signals that there is not enough storage space on your computer for the update.

Microsoft is currently delivering the said registry key to the Windows 10 and Windows 11 21H2 computers. If the entry is not yet available, you should check again in a few days.
