Hockey: Dutch ladies again beat Germany in Pro League
3.51 pm: The Dutch hockey players have beaten Germany for the second time this weekend in the Pro League. After the 2-1 on Saturday, it became 3-0 in the Wagener Stadium on Sunday.
The Orange already took the lead in the second minute via Pien Dicke. Lidewij Welten took both the 2-0 and the 3-0 for her account. The final score was already reached after 36 minutes.
For the team of national coach Alyson Annan it is the eighth victory in ten games in the Pro League.
Football: Rangers are Scottish champions again after ten years
3:23 PM Rangers FC can call itself the national champion of Scotland for the first time in ten years. Rival Celtic did not get further than a 0-0 draw at Dundee United on Sunday. The difference in the ranking, 20 points in favor of Rangers, can no longer be made up in the remaining six duels.
The team of coach Steven Gerrard has not yet lost a league game this season and thus puts an end to a series of nine titles in a row from Celtic. In four of those seasons, Rangers didn’t even make it to the highest level after the club went bankrupt and had to start over at the fourth level. “This club has returned from hell”, Gerrard described the recent history on Saturday after the 3-0 win at St. Mirren. “I’ve only been a part of it for a few years, but I can imagine what the fans had to endure.”
Tennis: Rus takes doubles title in Lyon
2:49 PM Tennis player Arantxa Rus has won the doubles at the WTA tournament in Lyon. In the final of the French indoor tournament, Rus came back together with the Slovakian Viktoria Kuzmova against Olga Danilovic from Serbia and the Canadian Eugenie Bouchard. It became 3-6 7-5 10-7. Rus and Kuzmova made up a 6-3 4-1 deficit.
For the 30-year-old Russian it is her fourth doubles title. Last year she was the strongest in Palermo and Linz with the Slovenian Tamara Zidansek and in 2017 she triumphed with fellow countryman Quirine Lemoine in the Swedish Bastad.
In the singles, Rus lost in Lyon in the second round, to the Belgian Greet Minnen.
Tennis: Croats Mektic and Pavic win doubles tournament in Ahoy
2:28 pm: Croatian tennis players Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic have won the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament doubles tournament. The second placed Croatians were the boss in the final in Rotterdam, the Romanian Horia Tecau and the German Kevin Krawietz 7-6 (7) 6-2.
Mektic and Pavic are the successors of the French Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut, who also won the tournament in 2018.
Earlier this year, Mektic and Pavic also won the smaller ATP tournaments in Antalya and Melbourne. They have only recently formed a permanent couple. Last year Mektic played together with the Dutchman Wesley Koolhof. Together they won the closing ATP Finals.
Football: Attacker Sancho longer on the side at Dortmund
2.19 pm: Borussia Dortmund will miss out on Tuesday in the duel with Sevilla in the eighth finals of Champions League attacker Jadon Sancho. The 20-year-old Brit, already one of the most important players in the Germans, will probably be sidelined for weeks. “It is not a minor muscle injury”, technical director Michael Zorc wanted to say on Sunday, but he did not reveal more details.
Sancho was already missing in the lost game (4-2) at Bayern Munich on Saturday. On Tuesday, he had to leave with an injury in the quarterfinals of the battle for the German Cup against Schalke 04. Before that, he had helped his team to the semi-finals with the only goal.
The playing of Norwegian Erling Haaland is not a question mark on Tuesday, although the attacker was replaced prematurely after his two goals in Munich. Giovanni Reyna and Raphael Guerreiro also don’t seem available on Tuesday. Dortmund won the first game in Seville 3-2.
Skiing: Odermatt now also the best on the super-G
12.36 pm: Marco Odermatt again proved to be a true all-rounder on Sunday. The 23-year-old Swiss was the best in a super-G for the world cup in Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Austria. It was his third World Cup victory and the second of this season. Odermatt narrowed the gap to French leader Alexis Pinturault in the World Cup position across all disciplines.
Odermatt won a giant slalom earlier in the season. He thus became the first since the Austrian Marcel Hirscher in 2015-2016 to win both a super-G and a giant slalom in one season. In Saalbach he left behind the Frenchman Matthieu Bailet and the Austrian world champion Vincent Kriechmayr, who won a downhill on the same slope on Saturday.
In the super-G standings, Kriechmayr remains leader for Odermatt with one race to go. Pinturault finished fifteenth on Sunday. The World Cup continues next week in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia, with a giant slalom (March 13) and a slalom (March 14).
Athletics: Douma improves own record in the 10 kilometers
11.44 am: Richard Douma has broken his own Dutch record in 10 kilometers on the road in Berlin. Douma got into a match with strict corona rules until a time of 28.04. He was four seconds faster than more than a year ago in Valencia. Last month he already ran a national record on the road over 5 kilometers in Monaco.
“I started quickly, came through at 13.55 after 5 kilometers and then dropped back into a group that was just behind me,” said Douma. “In the last hundreds of meters I had no strength for a good sprint, but I am very satisfied with my 28.04.”
General: China wants to supply vaccines to Olympians
10.42 am: China, in collaboration with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), wants to supply vaccines against Covid-19 to Olympians. The leading diplomat and politician Wang Yi declared this on Sunday. China will enter into talks with other countries about vaccine approval as soon as possible. These could then be distributed to participants in the Olympic Games via the IOC.
China will host the Winter Games in February 2022. This summer is the year-delayed Summer Games in Tokyo. China has already developed several vaccines.
