The Audi TT has long been on the way to becoming a classic. The first copies will celebrate their 25th anniversary next year and are now enjoying greater popularity again, but with a bit of luck you can still get them at affordable prices. Experts predict good price development for the TT. But can tuned TTs also become real collectors’ items one day? There is no guarantee for that, but this TT Roadster with the complete Abt Sportsline tuning package is definitely a real rarity!
Audi TT Roadster with Abt wide body on eBay
A black Audi TT Roadster from the year 2000 is currently being offered on eBay. However, the Audi is nothing for advocates of originality, because it was subsequently refined by Abt Sportsline. Nothing was saved here, because in addition to the wide body kit including a huge rear wing, side skirts and front apron attachments and a diffuser made of real carbon, a four-pipe exhaust system and a KW coilover suspension were also installed. The visual modifications are rounded off by multi-part aluminum rims (Abt A27) in the dimensions 9×19 at the front and 9.5×19 at the rear.
Four-cylinder turbo with 265 instead of 224 hp
However, the first owner was not satisfied with the pure appearance and so he also ordered the Abt performance upgrade. Thanks to new software, the four-cylinder turbo with a displacement of 1.8 liters delivers 265 instead of 224 hp. For the 2001 model year, the Kemptner Audi specialist even offered horsepower injections up to 310 hp. The power transmission takes over a six-speed manual transmission, all-wheel drive was standard with the 224 hp version.
Bad: The electric top can currently only be opened and closed by hand.
When the Ingolstadt company presented the first generation TT Coupé (8N) in 1998, the enthusiasm was great. The TT was an elegant sports car based on the VW Golf 4 platform, which was also offered as a roadster from 1999. Initially, the popular 1.8T was available in two performance levels with either 180 or 224 hp, later weaker versions followed and from 2003 the top model TT 3.2 quattro with VR6 and 250 hp, which due to its higher weight was not necessarily more sporty than the nominal weaker models. The special model TT quattro Sport with bucket seats and 240 hp, of which only 1,168 were built, is particularly popular.

Back to the TT Roadster offered by Abt Sportsline: The black convertible with 163,000 kilometers is second-hand and has a full service history. In addition to the complete conversion, the equipment is extensive. In addition to the popular “moccasin leather” in brown, the notable features include: navigation system, automatic air conditioning, Bose sound system, electric hood, heated seats and more.
Good: The brown “moccasin interior” is in decent condition despite the relatively high mileage.
The electric top is defective
However, the last 22 years and 163,000 kilometers have left their mark on the TT. In addition to general signs of wear, the seller honestly explains that the central locking and the electric top are currently not working. He cites a defective convenience control unit as a possible cause. After all, the roof can be opened and closed manually.
The wide-body TT will cost 14,900 euros
Even if these defects are unsightly, interested parties have a good starting point for negotiations here, because at 14,900 euros the TT is not a bargain. First-generation TTs tuned by Abt are sometimes available from as little as 5000 euros, but it is important to differentiate here, because these vehicles are not complete conversions. The wide body kit in particular is rare and makes this TT something very special. And as we now know, contemporary vehicles can also become collector’s items one day. The best example of this are the Koenig Specials wide bodies!
