Developer Remedy has teamed up with Rockstar Games to announce that they are working on reboots of fan-favorite games Max Payne and Max Payne 2. Such was the ensuing fan interest that the game’s investor website
temporarily collapsed
was. That’s a bit surprising, after all, the first game about the anti-hero Max Payne was more than 20 years ago. In the debut, the battered character had to avenge the murder of his wife and daughter. Because of this vigilante theme and the violence shown in slow motion, the original version of the game was indexed by the BPjM. It was not removed from this list until 2012. Two years after the first part, the sequel was released in October 2003, which offered more locations and a more extensive story thanks to a significantly larger budget.
For PC and console
Now Remedy and Rockstar Games are planning remakes of the first two parts. These should rely on the Northlight Engine, which is known from “Alan Wake” and “Control”. A release of both parts for PC, Playstation 5 and Xbox Series X/S is planned. Rockstar Games promises a typical AAA production. Both remakes are still in the concept development phase.
Price and date unclear
However, there is still no date for the two new editions. It is quite possible that the remakes of “Max Payne” and “Max Payne 2” will appear as a bundle at the same time. However, it could also be that there are several months between the release of both games. It is also still completely unclear what pricing Rockstar Games and Remedy are planning for both new editions.
