Report: WKStA investigates Schmid because of false statements

The Economic and Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (WKStA) has, according to a report by Upper Austrian news Investigations against ÖBAG boss Thomas Schmid started because of false statements before the Ibiza-U-Committee. According to his survey on June 24, 2020, he is said to have stated that the former FP State Secretary Hubert Fuchs was involved in the process of the 2018 gambling amendment, but there is “no record of this”.

Schmid, who was General Secretary in the Ministry of Finance before his appointment as ÖBAG boss, stated in his questioning in the U Committee that the former FP State Secretary Hubert Fuchs was involved in the process of the 2018 gambling amendment.

The WKStA investigators are now said to have sought evidence of Schmid’s statements in the ministry. There is “no record on record of an – even if only minor – involvement of the State Secretariat, a jointly appointed working group or any other form of involvement,” the WKStA justified loudly OÖN the investigation.
