Inventor Ron Gilbert will again play a key role in this. A first short trailer is also available.
“Introducing Return to Monkey Island, a new game by Ron Gilbert that follows on from Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge,” reads one
Twitter message from publisher Devolver Digital
. And there you can also find the first brief trailer, which shows a fairly modern 3D graphic for the classic adventure game. A website is also already online. Apart from the trailer and the information already mentioned, including the release date, this will no longer be available this year. Also on board the development is Ron Gilbert’s Studio Terrible Toybox and Lucasfilm Games, which was revived just over a year ago.
The “Monkey Island” adventure series has been appearing since 1990, and a Wikipedia article provides information about the varied history. “Tales of Monkey Island” was the fifth title in the computer game series in 2009 and was not developed by Lucasarts, but by Telltale Games with their specific style and charm. This adventure also came to the gaming market for Mac and iOS.
Most recently, the remake of part two was released: ”Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge” (2010). Unfortunately, this ( here on Steam ) was not released for the Mac at the time – but in that case, given the more widespread use of the platform, one can hope that a separate version is being prepared for both Mac and iOS/iPadOS.
