Rings of Power: That’s why you don’t see any ratings yet

The new Amazon series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” has got off to a flying start. But at the moment you can’t see any viewer ratings. That is the reason. Tip: You can even watch the first few episodes for free.

Update: Amazon is cheering – and only releases ratings with a delay

Amazon celebrates 25 million viewers worldwide in the first 24 hours. This made “Rings of Power” the most watched series premiere on Amazon Prime Video.

However, Amazon does not release ratings for the new series immediately, but first reviews them, as Variety reports. With this, Amazon wants to sort out fake ratings from trolls and bots. Ratings that survive the check and come from real viewers should then be activated by Amazon after 72 hours. Amazon only introduced this 72-hour delay for the publication of applications a few weeks ago.

Previous ratings

In the case of the well-known Internet Movie Database (imdb), which belongs to Amazon, the ratings are only average: 6.8 out of 10. On Rotten Tomatoes, the ratings of the press critics and other users differ significantly: 86 percent are from the professionals , but only 36 percent of the audience. At Metacritic, on the other hand, the “rings of power” also do better with the critics than with the users.

Here is a direct link to the first two episodes

The new Lord of the Rings series, loosely adapted from JRR Tolkien’s literary work (so it is not a 1:1 adaptation of a book by Tolkien), appears exclusively on Amazon Prime Video. Start is today, September 2, 2022. The first two episodes of the first season – “Shadows of the Past” and “Flotsam” –

are already available here.

Here is the short description of the first two episodes from Amazon:

Episode 1: Shadows of the Past

Galadriel (played by Morfydd Clark in the series and not by Cate Blanchett as in The Lord of the Rings trilogy) is concerned at signs of the return of an ancient evil; Arondir makes a disturbing discovery; Elrond is faced with an intriguing new venture; Nori breaks one of the most important laws of the Harfeet.

Episode 2: Flotsam

Galadriel finds a new ally; Elrond is not welcome with an old friend; Nori tries to help a stranger; Arondir seeks answers while Bronwyn warns her people of a threat.

Overview of the series

The Amazon Original series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” is scheduled for five seasons and takes place long before the events we know from the Tolkien books “The Hobbit” and “Lord of the Rings”. Because while the two books mentioned and their film adaptations play in the so-called “Third Age”, the Amazon series shows events from the “Second Age”. Sauron, the main villain from “Lord of the Rings” has his rise in the “Second Age” and forges just this one ring, which is what “The Lord of the Rings” is about. The five seasons will cost Amazon $1 billion to produce.
