Roku TV starts in Germany on TVs from Metz and TCL

The Roku TV operating system starts in Germany: the manufacturers Metz and TCL equip TV models with it.

After the launch of the Roku streaming player in Germany (tested here) last year, Roku TV is now also launching. As announced by Roku at the start of IFA 2022 in Berlin. Roku TV is an operating system that is used on televisions. In Germany, Metz blue and TCL are among the first partners to launch affordable TVs in all sizes from 32 to 65 inches with Roku TV from October 2022.

With Roku TV, Roku promises a wide range of entertainment on an easy-to-use interface. All the options available for linear TV via the television’s integrated TV tuner and streaming content via the Internet are displayed on a clear home screen.

Apps are available for using the streaming services. Included are, for example, apps for accessing the media libraries of German TV channels, Apple TV, Netflix, Disney+ and Prime Video. New apps can be downloaded and stored on the home screen via the integrated Roku Channel Store app store. Thousands of such apps should be available.

Roku TV’s search feature allows users to search for content they would like to watch. In the search results of the universal search, they then find out whether the desired film or series is available in a media library, a streaming subscription or for a fee to buy or rent. All streaming apps used by the user are taken into account. The search results are sorted by price: The free offers appear before the paid content.

App expands capabilities of Roku TVs

For mobile devices, the free Roku Mobile app is available, which can be used as a remote control, voice search, and voice control of the Roku TV. Another special feature: the user can listen to the TV sound via the app and headphones connected to the mobile device. All Roku TVs support Apple’s Airplay 2, Miracast, and voice assistants Alexa, Google Assistant, and Siri.

Roku explains that it’s particularly easy for TV manufacturers to integrate the Roku TV operating system into their televisions. Roku handles the implementation itself and also manages the updating of the operating system and all apps. This should allow regular software updates to be delivered, which will give the Roku TV new features and improvements.
