Football: Sergio Ramos stands for international number 177 and European record
8.42 pm: Sergio Ramos breaks a European record on Saturday when he gets playing time with Spain during the game with Switzerland in the Nations League. The Real Madrid defender is facing his 177th international match.
The 34-year-old Ramos was allowed to come in on Wednesday in the final phase of the game with the Dutch national team. He tied the score with Gianluigi Buffon, the Italian goalkeeper who played 176 caps. Both footballers now share the European record when it comes to most played international matches.
Ramos is also still in the race for the world record, which is still held by Ahmed Hassan. The Egyptian played 184 games for his national team. Ramos made his debut in the Spanish national team in 2005, winning a game against China: 3-0.
Football: Bram Nuytinck longer with Udinese
8 pm: Bram Nuytinck has extended his contract with the Italian football club Udinese. The 30-year-old defender is now connected to the current number before last of the Serie A until the summer of 2023.
Nuytinck made the switch from Anderlecht to Udinese three years ago. He previously played for NEC from Nijmegen.
Cycling: Michael Valgren finds shelter with Education First
7:51 pm: Danish cyclist Michael Valgren makes the switch from NTT to Education First. Manager Jonathan Vaughters’ American team sees him as an asset to the classics. Valgren won the Amstel Gold Race and the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad in 2018.
The 28-year-old Dane also won two national titles on the road and has now completed the Tour de France six times, but he has been “dry” since his victory in the Limburg hill classic. “Michael has a big engine,” says Vaughters. “I see in him a valuable rider for the team, an asset that we can play in the spring races on the cobblestones.”
Valgren is leaving NTT because that team may no longer exist at the end of this year. The rider himself has one big wish and that is to win the Tour of Flanders. His best result in that Flemish classic is fourth place in 2018. “That race is so intense, so long and so tough, but somehow it’s over before you know it,” said Valgren.
Football: Mbappé may also miss a duel with Portugal
7.15 pm: It is still not clear whether Kylian Mbappé can play for the national football team of France during the game with Portugal in the Nations League on Saturday. The attacker of Paris Saint-Germain is still recovering from a muscle injury. National coach Didier Deschamps decides just before the game whether he calls on Mbappé.
Mbappé was missing on Wednesday during the lost exhibition game with Finland (0-2). Benjamin Pavard, Lucas Hernandez and Corentin Tolisso also did not play against the Finns but are fit for the match against Portugal.
France and Portugal lead Group 3 of Division A of the Nations League with 10 points.
Athletics: Kenyan Manangoi suspended for two years
6.30 pm: Kenyan athlete Elijah Manangoi, the 2017 world champion in the 1500 meters, has been suspended for two years for violating doping regulations. He missed three doping controls within twelve months last year, reported the doping watchdog in the AIU athletics. Due to the suspension, Manangoi will miss the Olympic Games in Tokyo next year.
Manangoi won the world title in the 1500 meters at the 2017 World Cup in London. Two years earlier he would have had to settle for silver at that distance in Beijing, behind his compatriot Asbel Kiprop. Manangoi was unable to defend his title at the World Cup in Doha last year due to a stress fracture in one foot.
An athlete must state his whereabouts well in advance so that inspectors can also take a doping sample unannounced. Manangoi had failed to indicate in his so-called “whereabouts” the exact location where he was staying and thus missed unannounced checks three times. The athlete has accepted the penalty according to the AIU.
Golf: Dustin Johnson co-leader Masters after first round
5.14 pm: After the first round of the Masters, American golfer Dustin Johnson has also nestled at the top of the field. The number 1 in the world ranking was one of 44 players who had to complete their first tour of the eighteen holes of the golf course in Augusta on Friday. Athletics: The Zevenheuvelenhoop organization is aiming for two editions in 2021
03.03 pm: Next year there may be two editions of the Zevenheuvelenloop. The intention is that the running race over 15 kilometers in and around Nijmegen will be held in both spring and autumn.
“If the opportunity arises to organize the 37th Seven Hills Run in the spring, we will take it. We maintain close contact with the municipalities of Nijmegen and Berg en Dal. As soon as it is responsible, we will set up a Seven Hills Run within eight weeks ”, says director Alexander Vandevelde.
No date has been set for the edition in the spring. The run in the fall is planned for Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 November. A month ago, the organization decided that the running competition cannot take place this year. The event was scheduled for Sunday, November 15.
Motorsport: Russell has to start at the back of the Turkish GP
12.54 pm: The Briton George Russell already knows that he has to start at the back on Sunday in the Grand Prix of Turkey. The 22-year-old Williams driver has had various engine parts replaced for the fourth time this season, resulting in a grid penalty.
The drivers may replace the combustion engine and turbo in their car three times a year, after which a penalty will follow. Cycling: Dowsett chasing record with new contract
12.50 pm: Briton Alex Dowsett will also drive for the Israel Start-Up Nation team for the next two years. The 32-year-old Dowsett has extended his contract until the end of 2022. Earlier this week he announced on December 12 that he would attack the world hour record of Belgian Victor Campenaerts on the track in Manchester.
Dowsett recorded a stage victory in the Giro d’Italia last month. He gave Israel Start-Up Nation the first victory in a big round. The Israeli team will make its debut this year in the WorldTour, the highest level of cycling. Dowsett will have four-time Tour winner Chris Froome as a teammate next year.

Football: Blaswich resumes group training at Heracles

Football: Messi’s goal in World Cup qualification rejected
07.32 am: Argentina has failed to win the World Cup qualifier against Paraguay. In Buenos Aires, the Argentines were stuck at 1-1. Lionel Messi seemed to score the winning goal, 2-1, but his goal was disallowed.
Paraguay took the lead in the 21st minute via Ángel Romero, who used a penalty kick. Just before half-time, Nicolás González, playing for VfB Stuttgart, equalized his head from a corner.
For Argentina, it was only the first points loss in the qualifying series for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. The team of national coach Lionel Scaloni had won the first two matches.
