The current sales figures for Nintendo’s Switch and Sony’s Playstation models are reaching important milestones.
Sony and Nintendo report current sales figures for their consoles.
The two manufacturers Sony and Nintendo have announced official sales figures for their current consoles. According to this, the Nintendo Switch was able to sell around 107.65 million copies worldwide from its release to March 31, 2022. In the first quarter of 2022 alone, 4.11 million devices were sold over the counter. In the entire fiscal year 2021/22, Nintendo was able to sell 23.06 million units. This remarkable figure nevertheless includes a decrease of 20 percent compared to the previous year.
Eight games per Switch owner
Nevertheless, Nintendo can be happy about reaching the 100 million mark for the switch. Even if hardware sales are declining somewhat, Nintendo can look forward to a slight increase of 1.8 percent in game sales. A total of 235.07 million games were sold for the platform last year, and since the release there have been 822.18 million games. Each buyer buys about eight games on average.
Little interest in the Playstation 4
Sony reports that 19.3 million consoles have been sold since the release of the Playstation 5. In the first quarter, two million PS5 consoles went over the counter. In the previous year, this value was still 3.3 million devices. One reason for this might be that Sony missed its self-imposed target of 14.8 million consoles produced. However, the aged Playstation 4 was only able to convince 100,000 buyers. In the previous year, the value was ten times as high. Overall, however, the PS4 also has impressive sales figures of 117 million devices. In terms of game sales, both Playstation consoles together came to 70.5 million in the first quarter of 2022 – an increase of 9.1 million games compared to the same period last year.
