On January 14th, Samsung presented the Galaxy S21, S21 + and S21 Ultra: At the start, the phones will cost from 849 euros. We’ll tell you when to buy to save the most.

Samsung will officially present its new Galaxy S21 series much earlier than usual on January 14th. But almost all the details about the three are already there

Samsung devices (all rumors)
known. The prices have already leaked: So should be loud

Winfuture
the Galaxy S21 starts at 849 euros, the Galaxy S21 + at 1049 euros and the top model Galaxy S21 Ultra at 1249 euros. Even if at least the S21 and the Ultra model would be cheaper than their predecessors at the beginning, they are still expensive. We’ll show you when the ideal time to buy is and how you can save hundreds of euros.

First good purchase opportunity after four weeks

The higher Samsung set the price for its smartphones, the faster the price fell. Shortly after the launch, the price curve of the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S9 shows a significantly steeper downward trend than the S7. And the Galaxy S10 was also almost 130 euros cheaper four weeks after its release (14 percent). The EIA is usually only paid by customers who pre-order the new cell phones – because shortly after the market launch, the nosedive begins.

The Galaxy S20 models experienced an even steeper drop in prices: the price for fell within the first four weeks

Galaxy S20 (all information)
from 899 to 730 euros, which corresponds to a saving of around 19 percent. After four weeks, a Galaxy S20 + only cost 830 instead of 999 euros (18 percent price drop), after that the price remained more or less stable and only fell significantly after three and five months. Overall, the top model Galaxy S20 Ultra was more stable in price. After four weeks, you paid just under € 1,230 instead of € 1,349, which means you can save just 9 percent.

In order to be able to sell the smartphones immediately and at high prices, Samsung often lures with pre-order campaigns. The S20 + and S20 Ultra had it

Galaxy Buds + Bluetooth headphones
worth 169 euros for free at the time. We assume that Samsung will start a similar promotion for the Galaxy S21 models. According to

Winfuture
Those who pre-order the Galaxy S21 Ultra should receive the new Galaxy Buds Pro worth around 230 euros. For the Galaxy S21 and S21 + there should be the Galaxy Buds Live with an RRP of around 190 euros. All pre-orderers should also get the new SmartTags, which would otherwise cost just under 30 euros. If you wanted to buy these add-ons either way, this is a good opportunity.

Generally good buying chance after three and especially five months

The price development (in each case from the market launch until today) of all Galaxy devices since the Galaxy S6 shows that the price falls most violently within three months and then moves downwards more slowly. 12 weeks after the market launch, the Galaxy S10 was available for 650 instead of 899 euros – you could save 28 percent here. In the same period after the release, the price of the Galaxy S9 fell by a good 35 percent from 849 to 550 euros. With the Galaxy S7, for example, you were able to save 21 percent and thus around 150 euros on the starting price of 699 euros in 2016.

It looks a little different with the Galaxy S20. After the initial, very sharp price drop of 19 percent after four weeks, the price had stabilized halfway. Within 12 weeks, the price had dropped from 899 to around 696 euros (almost 23 percent savings). The course of the Galaxy S20 + is quite similar (21 percent after three months).

Here you can see the price development of the Galaxy S20 after the market launch. At the beginning the price fell very sharply, then moderately with a more pronounced fall after around 5 months.

The next major price drop was five months after the release to around 630 euros. Total savings compared to the RRP: almost 30 percent. The Galaxy S20 + was 31 percent cheaper after five months, you saved 300 euros.

While the price for the S20 Ultra fell less sharply at the beginning than for the other models, an ideal purchase time was reached after three months with a saving of around 24 percent (1030 euros). In the following weeks the device was only slightly cheaper, after another two months you only paid around 30 euros less.

Price prediction for the Galaxy S21 / S21 + / S21 Ultra

If we now assume that the price trend for the Galaxy S21 models is similar to that of the predecessors, which differs more from the previous Galaxy models, you will save up to 19 percent on the Galaxy S21 and S21 + after around four weeks. That means: An S21 would then only be 688 instead of 849 euros (161 euros saved) and an S21 + only 850 instead of 1049 euros (199 euros saved).

After around three months, you will save around 22 percent on the two models, which is € 187 on the S21 and € 231 on the S21 +. Five months after the release, a major price drop of a total of 30 percent could follow. The Galaxy S21 would then be available for 594 euros (255 euros saving) and an S21 + for 734 euros (315 euros saving).

The best time to buy the top model Galaxy S21 Ultra is expected to be three months after the release, considering the price trend of the Galaxy S20 Ultra. Assuming savings of 25 percent, you would only pay 937 euros instead of 1249 and thus save 312 euros.

Conclusion:

The price development of the past Galaxy S generations shows that it is only partially worthwhile to wait longer than around three months after the market launch before buying the new model. The S20 models show that there could be an initial purchase opportunity after four weeks – in other words, in the middle or end of February. Also mark the end of April and June in the calendar, here the price could fall even more sharply. It is best to buy the Galaxy S21 Ultra at the end of April / beginning of May.

Disclaimer: Based on historical price developments, we can predict a price trend for the new Galaxy S21 models. How quickly prices actually develop can differ from this forecast.
