Carrier disregarded an order by the Greek government regarding the entry QR codes.
The Hungarian low-cost airline Wizzair receives a hefty fine in the form of a temporary ban on land in Athens for disregarding an order by the Greek government. Specifically, Greece accuses the airline that the presence of the entry QR code has not been checked on a large scale and that so many passengers were brought into the country without it.
The Mediterranean state is particularly clear in Notam A2235 / 20 and prohibits Wizzair from landing and operating all flights to Athens because the regulations published in Notam 2138/20 have been violated. The Wizzair ban will take effect on August 2, 2020 at 9:00 p.m. (UTC) and will continue until August 14, 2020, at 9:00 p.m. (UTC).
At the same time, Greece urgently warns all other airlines in Notam that similar sanctions could be imposed if instructions are disregarded. Airlines flying to Greece must check before boarding whether the passengers have the QR code necessary for entry on paper or on their smartphone. Those who do not have this may not be promoted.
