Whether it is for Christmas, to buy clothes or for music … many Belgians regularly go to London for a weekend to shop. Due to Brexit, you will have to take a few things into account from 1 January 2021, an overview of the consequences of the Brexit deal:
Maximum to carry
The amount of goods that you can take with you will be limited from 1 January 2021. If you travel with the Eurostar, you can only take a maximum of 300 euros in goods with you. If you travel by plane, that maximum amount is 430 euros. Those who bring more along risk additional costs.
There are also additional restrictions for a number of specific matters. For example, you can bring a maximum of 200 cigarettes, 4 liters of wine and 2 liters of spirits. Here too you risk a customs levy or your goods may be seized.
Citizens of the European Union traveling to the United Kingdom do not need an additional visa. This is only the case if you plan to stay longer than six months, or if you want to live or work there.
Until October 1, 2021, it is even sufficient to just bring your identity card. After that you are required to have a valid travel passport. More information about this can be found on the website of FPS Foreign Affairs.
