Patrick Roest has taken a solid option for his first Dutch title all-round. The 24-year-old skater of Team Jumbo-Visma also won the 5000 meters in the almost deserted Thialf. However, the European and Dutch champion did this at this distance with less display of power than previously thought.
Roest finished after a difficult race in a time of 6.15.31 minutes. He was slightly faster than Marwin Talsma, who set the second fastest time with a personal best of 6.16.04. Marcel Bosker ended up in third place in the 5000 meters with 6.17.41.
In the ranking after two distances, Roest is in great shape. On Sunday, he defends a margin of 2.28 seconds on his teammate Bosker in the 1500 meters. Title holder Jan Blokhuijsen, who finished fifth in the 5000 meters (6.21.89), is number 3 at 3.45 behind the classification leader.
Roest won the 500 meters earlier on Saturday in a time of 36.47.
