Skoda Enyaq: With a coupé rear, the SUV creates more range

Premiere and market launch: Skoda will unveil the Enyaq Coupé at the end of January 2022

Skoda is building a coupe version of the Enyaq. The Czechs have published new design sketches and revealed when the premiere of the VW ID.5 brother will take place: The new electric model will be unveiled on January 31, 2022. The Enyaq Coupé can therefore presumably be ordered from February 2022. The first models could roll out to dealers a short time later.

Prices of the Skoda Enya Coupé iV could start at around 42,000 euros

Prices reveals Skoda before the presentation not yet, but a comparison with the platform brothers VW ID.4 and ID.5 shows in which direction it could go. The Wolfsburg-based company currently offers the ID.5 as a 128 kW (179 PS) Pro version (from 46,515 euros) or as a Pro Performance with 150 kW (204 PS) from 47,550 euros. The Coupé is not available in the “Pure” basic version. The surcharge for the comparable ID.4 Pro with 150 kW (204 PS, from 44,915 euros) is around 2500 euros. Now let’s assume that Skoda the iV 60 as Basic drive of the coupe chooses and the surcharge policy is comparable to that of VW, the Prices of the Enyaq Coupé iV start at around 42,000 euros.

Despite the coupé rear, the trunk only shrinks minimally

There are no big surprises when it comes to the design. While the Enyaq has so far been driving up as a well-behaved high seat, which has a few rough edges in the sheet metal cladding, but otherwise hardly offers any friction surface, the flattened coupé rear is much more polarized. The coupé version is identical to the normal Enyaq up to the B-pillar – with one exception, because the side skirts are painted – at least on the design sketch. The roof line slopes gently behind the front doors and ends in a tailgate with a spoiler lip. If you fear major restrictions in the trunk, you can breathe a sigh of relief: The luggage compartment only shrinks minimally from 585 to 570 liters.

Range and drive: Better aerodynamics should provide more range

It is already official that the Enyaq Coupé will have better aerodynamics compared to its platform brothers Audi Q4 e-tron Sportback and VW ID.5. While the colleagues from Wolfsburg and Ingolstadt each achieved a drag coefficient of 0.26, the Skoda achieved 0.234 – this should have a positive effect on the range. The WLTP range of the regular Enyaq is up to 541 kilometers, depending on the drive and battery.

The versions with a large battery will also have a sloping roofline; so the 150 kW (204 PS) powerful Enyaq Coupé iV 80 with 77 kWh of electricity in the stomach or the one also available in the coupé body All-wheel drive version 80x with an extra motor on the front axle and up to 195 kW (265 hp). The 60s model will also be in the showroom, with a 58 kWh battery and 132 kW (179 PS). The Czechs do without the entry-level model iV 50 with reduced performance and electricity storage capacity. Of the Sport version RS there is no talk yet – it is not unlikely that it will be submitted later.

First check in the interior

When trying out the second row of the prototype, adults were also able to take a seat. Otherwise everything is the same: if you get in at the front, you will find yourself in the well-known Enyaq cockpit again, with small instruments, a large infotainment screen and a tidy center console. With the Coupé, the glass roof is, the rest depends on the budget.

Driving: No surprises on the first drive in the prototype

The ride in the prototype did not produce any surprises. The SUV coupé is flowing good-naturedly, thanks to the more than two tons of weight fed up on the street – and like its conventional brothers, does not fall through exaggerated Liveliness on. But it doesn’t have to be, the sloping rear ensures that.

Jan and Peter are convinced of the look and the space in the interior of the Enyaq, but the crucial question is: Can it Enyaq top version Enyaq iV 80x – here two electric motors produce 195 kW (265 PS) – long haul too? On paper, the twin-engine Enyaq is supposed to cover up to 496 kilometers, but how does it look under real conditions?
