American tennis player Sebastian Korda, son of former top player Petr Korda, has reached the final for the first time at an ATP tournament. The 20-year-old Korda did that in Delray Beach. There he defeated Briton Cameron Norrie in the semifinals in straight sets: 6-3 7-5. Father Petr Korda won the Australian Open in 1998 and also reached second place in the world ranking that year.
The young American made it to the fourth round of Roland Garros as a qualifier last year, in which he had to lose against record champion Rafael Nadal. Korda then won a challenger in Germany and continued his winning streak at the start of the new season in Delray Beach.
The number 119 in the world competes with Hubert Hurkacz for the title on the American hard court. The 23-year-old Pole, 35th in the global ranking, ended the rise of qualifier Christian Harrison. Hurkacz defeated the number 789 in the world 7-6 (4) 6-4. The Pole already has an ATP title, captured two years ago in Winston-Salem.
