Sonos introduces Sonos Ray with Airplay 2 and Apple Music

Manufacturer Sonos has presented an inexpensive soundbar with AirPlay 2, voice control and Apple Music.

The soundbars from the manufacturer Sonos are actually quite expensive. Now, with the Sonos Ray speaker bar, the company has unveiled a relatively affordable solution for $279 in the US. According to the manufacturer, the soundbar can open up a surprisingly wide soundstage thanks to advanced processor technology. AirPlay 2 is also supported so that audio content can be sent wirelessly from an iPad, iPhone or Mac to the soundbar.

From June 7th in Germany

The Sonos Ray is scheduled to start selling in the USA, Canada, Mexico, Great Britain, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Poland, France, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Portugal, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and select other countries on June 7, 2022. The Sonos Ray shines with a low price of 279 US dollars. For comparison: The second generation of the Beam costs 449 US dollars, for Arc even 899 euros.

Voice control without cloud storage

Sonos has also announced its own voice control for its smart speakers. This should allow compatible streaming services to be controlled by voice command “Hey Sonos”. According to the manufacturer, these include Apple Music, Amazon Music, Deezer, Pandora and Sonos Radio. In addition, all speakers already support Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. Sonos Voice is said to offer a third option for voice control. Voice control will be available in the US from June 1st. France is to follow later in the year. The voice commands would be processed entirely on the devices. Recordings are not uploaded to the cloud or overheard by third parties.
