Sony has just presented not only new televisions from the Bravia series – the Japanese electronics company has now also announced that it will launch a streaming service. However, Bravia is unlikely to represent further competition in the large range of Netflix, Amazon Prime * and Co. The service is only intended for Sony customers – and is limited to models from the manufacturer.

We have all the information about the unusual streaming service for you:

What is the advantage of Sony’s Bravia Core?

Bravia Core is a streaming service for the dissolution nerds. Because the platform will only work on the latest generation of devices, Sony can promise you particularly high image quality: 4K with up to 80 Mbit / s. Not to be forgotten: In order to be able to use this to the full extent, you need a device from the manufacturer and an Internet speed of at least 115 megabits per second. You can even enjoy some of the titles provided in 4K Imax Enhanced format with an extended contrast range.

Clearly: no. Netflix does not publish any figures on the size of its own media library. However, the streaming search engine “Justwatch” determined in November 2020 that 4,102 films were available in Germany at the time of the measurement. Bravia Core can shine with just 300 films. This is probably also due to the fact that the offer will be limited to the titles specially produced by Sony Pictures Entertainment.

A plus point: Bravia Core takes us behind the scenes and provides a large number of additional film material and interviews.

How expensive is it – or which payment system is behind it?

There is no subscription system behind Bravia Core, as we are used to from other platforms. The streaming service works via film credits. When you buy a television, you get five of these points for free. Exceptions are the models Z9J and A90J, which each come with ten film credits. With one credit you can watch a movie. They can be redeemed for one year, after which they expire.

Which TVs does the Bravia Core work on?

You can only use the streaming service if you buy one of these Sony TVs: Z9J, A90J, A80J, A83J, A84J, X95J, X90J, X92J, X93J or X94J.

When does it start?

It won’t take much longer. According to Sony, Bravia Core is due to launch on February 24th. Important: The unusual streaming service will probably only be available for a limited time. As of now: On February 23, 2026 there will be another shift in the shaft.

And otherwise?

With a Bravia Core account you can watch up to four streams in parallel. Of course, only if you have so many Sony televisions at home, of course.
