The long wait of many Playstation fans will soon come to an end: Sony will launch the Playstation 5 later this year. Almost everything is known except for price and exact release date. Sony has already commented on the game lineup in a livestream.
Sony delighted fans with the announcement that it would reintroduce backwards compatibility. The PS4 could not play games of the previous generation, that should change now. Many players hoped to be able to take the peripherals they had bought for the PS4 with them on the new console. The good news first: This is basically possible, as Sony has now announced. However, there is a catch.
PS5: PS4 controller can only be used to a limited extent
In a blog post, the Japanese company now announced which of the PS4 devices will be usable on the PS5. For example, PS VR and “officially licensed steering wheels, arcade sticks and flight sticks” should be compatible with PS5 games and supported PS4 games. The official wireless headsets and wired third-party headsets will also work on the PS5.
However, the official Dualshock 4 controller will only work with PS4 games – you need a PS5 controller for PS5 games. This is included in the purchase price of Playstation 5, but if you want to play with friends and family, you cannot avoid buying new controllers for PS5 games.
