Football: Koolwijk continues football career at Almere City FC

7:11 pm: Ryan Koolwijk will play for Almere City FC next season. The experienced midfielder signs a one-year contract with the kitchen champion club.

Koolwijk (34) played last season for the Slovak AS Trencin. Before that, he was active in the Dutch league for Excelsior, NEC and FC Dordrecht. In total, the Rotterdam player played 227 games in the premier league. In an earlier period with Trencin, he twice became champion of Slovakia and just as often won the national cup.

“Almere City FC is ambitious and I hope to compete with the club for promotion to the Eredivisie,” said Koolwijk. “I feel myself in top shape, have the necessary experience and hope to be able to tow the team with it. Several clubs were interested, but the feeling at Almere City FC was immediately good. ”

Cycling: No races in London after all

Although the race had a place on the extended version of the cycling calendar published on Tuesday, the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey Classic will be canceled in mid-August. Because of the coronavirus, the local authorities did not allow the competition for elite racers, both men and women.

Around the races, which are supposed to be held on August 15 and 16, a cycling festival with numerous activities is held every year. “The decision was made by the London authorities in consultation with all concerned,” said the organization. “It is definitely the right decision to delete this year’s edition to ensure the safety of all concerned. We look forward to welcoming the RideLondon again in the near future, ”said Will Norman, the head of London’s walking and cycling policy.

Hard hit Brazil is already thinking about football

08:43: In Brazil, professional football can restart the competition at the end of June, thinks Walter Feldman, the boss of the Brazilian football association CBF. “I have no doubt that we can pick up football again in June if there are good safety protocols and the health authorities are a little flexible,” said Feldman.

He made his optimistic statements a day after Brazil had risen to third place among countries with the most coronavirus infections. There are more than 270,000 recorded corona cases and more than 16,000 deaths. On Tuesday, Brazil even recorded a record 1179 deaths.

Germany, where the Bundesliga has resumed without an audience and with strict security regulations, is a shining example, Feldman said. “It was necessary to stop the competition in March, but Germany has shown that resuming is possible.”

Football: Costa Rica has a first in South America

08.17 am: Costa Rica is the first country in Latin America to resume professional football competition in the corona crisis. Guadalupe won 1-0 against Limon in Heredia, where there was no public and the reserves in the stands were well spaced. “It was quite difficult to get back into the game. I am exhausted, but happy to be playing again, ”said Arturo Campos, creator of the winning goal.

Costa Rica has not been severely affected by the corona virus. In the Central American country, 866 infections have been registered with ten fatalities. The twelve clubs in the highest league started training again on May 15. Football had come to a standstill on March 15.
