Spotify announced this today.
Spotify HiFi will be available later this year and, according to the service, offers music in CD quality, so-called ‘lossless audio’. The HiFi service with the higher audio quality will also work when streaming music wirelessly to Spotify Connect-enabled speakers.
Spotify says the HiFi plan will be available in a small number of countries first. It is not yet known what they are. The prices have also not yet been revealed.
Currently Spotify offers a bitrate of 320 kbps as the maximum audio quality. The normal subscription to the service costs 10 euros per month.
Competitors such as Amazon Music and Tidal have long had streaming plans with lossless audio for $ 15 and $ 20 per month respectively. Apple does not yet offer music in higher quality through its streaming service Apple Music. At Apple, the maximum bitrate is 256 kbps.
