Almost an hour before trading on Wall Street starts, the Dow Jones index is heading towards a 0.1% higher start. The Nasdaq will probably open flat. The broad-based S&P 500 index is expected to be 0.1% lower from the starting blocks.
The Nasdaq was down 2.7% on Wednesday. Tesla was one of the heavy losers with a minus of 4.8%. The car manufacturer is currently 0.3% in the green in the pre-market trade. Tesla’s Model 3 sales also appear to be taking off in Japan. This after the maker of the electric vehicles lowered the price of the mid-range sedan by almost a quarter to just under 5 million yen, or almost € 39,000. This makes the car more accessible to consumers who want to buy a luxury car for a low price.
This afternoon, figures were published about weekly unemployment benefits in the US. It showed that 745,000 unemployed Americans turned to the government for support in the past week. That was a slight windfall, as 750,000 aid applications had been expected. A week earlier, the number of WW applications had reached 730,000.
