Brian Brobbey proved his worth for Ajax for the second time in a short time on Thursday. Three weeks ago, he gave the team from Amsterdam the victory against Willem II (3-1) as a substitute, this time he did that in the first knockout round of the Europa League against Lille (1-2).
“This is what I have to do, score,” said Brobbey, who recently decided not to renew his contract expiring in the summer. “When I get in, I want to score. Of course I want to give everything for Ajax. It was a bit the same as against Willem II, I am very happy.”
Ajax was better than Lille but fell behind after a mistake by Nicolás Tagliafico in the 72nd minute. Dusan Tadic equalized from the penalty spot in the 87th minute and then it was Brobbey’s turn. “After a stupid mistake of our own, we got on with it,” said match winner Brobbey. “We can look at the return with a good feeling. But they are dangerous in the counter, with fast players in the front.”
