Summer 2020: Busy ÖAMTC air rescue services – Austrian Aviation Net

The yellow helicopters had to fly 5,188 sorties.

“Even if the summer of 2020 was different in many respects than in previous years, the 17 emergency medical helicopters of the ÖAMTC air ambulance were in almost uninterrupted operation,” said managing director Reinhard Kraxner on Wednesday. In total, the helicopters of the Christophorus fleet were alerted to 5,188 missions between July 1st and September 13th.

If you compare that with the figures from the previous year, this corresponds to an increase of 9.7 percent. However, with an additional helicopter, namely Christophorus 17, who has been stationed in St. Michael in Upper Styria since the end of May.

Statistics show Lower Austria as the most active federal state with 1,100 air rescue missions, followed by Styria (873 missions) and Tyrol with 747 missions. The Vienna emergency doctor’s helicopter Christophorus 9 took off most frequently (457 missions). In second place in the mission statistics is Christophorus Europa 3 out of Suben with 417 missions.
