Arina Sabalenka has won the major WTA tournament in Madrid. The 23-year-old tennis player from Belarus was the boss in a brand value final Ashleigh Barty, the number 1 in the world, 6-0 3-6 6-4. The three-set lasted only an hour and 39 minutes.
The first set was over within 26 minutes and Barty only won thirteen points. The Australian recovered and immediately took the lead in the second set: 2-0. After winning the second set, Barty even led 4-3, but the last three games went back to Sabalenka. The global number 7 finished it off with two love games.
For Sabalenka it is the tenth title of her career. At the beginning of this year she was also the best in Abu Dhabi.
At the end of April, Sabalenka and Barty also met in the final of the indoor clay tournament in Stuttgart. Then Barty (25) still won in three sets.
Sabalenka succeeds Kiki Bertens, who won the Madrid tournament in 2019. Last year, the tournament was canceled due to the corona virus.
