In the meantime, the previous Tesla lover (in addition to the Model S, he also owns a roadster) is even toying with the idea of switching to another brand. A Lucid Air – 1111 hp, a range of well over 750 kilometers and a self-proclaimed Tesla competitor – could become the new object of his desire. At least that’s what some of the baron’s statements on the short message service suggested.
Gentle driving style, careful loading
driving style: The Model S was driven around 600 kilometers per day on average. No problem for the trained farmer and current private owner from Gemmingen: “I used to sit on the tractor all day, it was no different.” Above all, however, the driving style was as gentle as possible, and the speed rarely exceeded 120 km/h. Because frequent switching between acceleration and recuperation generates waste heat and thus promotes the degeneration of the battery cells.

The Tesla covered the last kilometers to the million under the eyes of an expert.
battery and drive: The current battery is the second new one and has lasted 476,000 kilometers so far. Its usable residual capacity is still 61.9 kWh, less than 20 percent below the new condition. The range is now 330 kilometers. The engine is the fourth, it has already been in use for 700,000 kilometers. Everything was replaced under Tesla warranty.
Brakes hardly used, little wear
Costs: The repairs cost 13,000 euros. Charging cost almost nothing, because: charging with the superchargers was free for the Tesla, and von Gemmingen also generated cheap electricity at home with a photovoltaic system and often used other free public charging stations.

Record driver: Hansjörg Freiherr von Gemmingen-Hornberg in his million Tesla.
Goal: Understanding of alternative drives
And why does the 56-year-old, who made part of his fortune from forex trading, put his money into this hobby? He wants to ensure more understanding for alternative drives: “The electric car is a piece of the jigsaw, much more has to happen.” Incidentally, the record holder met Tesla boss Musk in 2013. The conversation was very short: “He couldn’t do much with me.”
