The only thing you have to pay attention to is that you don’t keep the bread in the freezer for too long. A tip here is to write the purchase date of the bread on the bread bag before you put it in the freezer.
You can then store the bread in the freezer for 4 to 6 months. To keep the bread extra long, you can wrap it in plastic foil (possibly per 3 slices) and put it in the bread bag. Be sure to use your common sense to assess whether the bread is still good: mold-like stains and a strange smell are of course no-go’s.
When you store bread in the freezer and you want to use it, it is important that you first let the bread thaw completely at room temperature.
Letting it thaw slowly instead of in the microwave or oven allows all the juices to be absorbed by the bread. This way it keeps a nice structure and it does not dry out. When the bread is completely thawed, slide it in the oven for 5-10 minutes at 190 degrees.
Extra tip: breadcrumbs
Do you only have a few slices of bread left? You might also consider stocking up on breadcrumbs in the freezer, which you replenish whenever you have a few slices of bread left.
Before use, you just pick the breadcrumbs out of the freezer and you can use it immediately (read: without defrosting!) As an addition to your pasta, salad or other dishes. Here too, adhere to the 6-month guideline.
