While in previous years Apple was mostly able to take first, second and third place, Samsung will outperform the US group in 2021. The budget smartphone Galaxy A12 takes first place in the top 10. The device was released in the fourth quarter of 2020. In 2021 as a whole, 51.8 million units were sold in European shops. According to Omdia, the Galaxy A12 is the first Samsung smartphone to break the 50 million mark within a year.
“Although the average selling price of Apple’s iPhones included in the top 10 is five times higher than the Galaxy A12, it is the most efficient model from Samsung, selling more than 50 million units per year as a single model”
explains Jusy Hong, Senior Research Manager at Omdia.

The other places in the top 10 are almost exclusively dominated by Apple. The iPhone 12, iPhone 13 and iPhone 11 came in second to fourth with 41.7, 34.9 and 33.6 million units sold. A smartphone from the Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi is in fifth place with the Redmi 9A. Other iPhone models are in sixth to ninth place. Finally, Samsung again came in tenth with the Galaxy A02.
