(DH) – Deprived of competition and therefore of financial income, sports clubs experience the worst difficulties in ensuring their administrative costs. This is why the Luxembourg Football Federation (FLF) has decided to come to the aid of its 112 clubs and has provided an envelope of 500,000 euros to help them. The distribution of this tidy sum will be based on the number of teams entered in the championship for the 2019-2020 season.

As a reminder, Prime Minister Xavier Bettel (DP) had recently ad the cancellation of all sporting events in Luxembourg until July 31 due to the coronavirus pandemic. For its part, the FLF had already decreed the cancellation of all youth competitions for this season. She also decided to suspend all meetings until April 27 concerning seniors.

In an interview at Luxemburger Wort, Paul Philipp, the president of the FLF had clearly indicated that it was necessary “to stop there”, and that it was therefore necessary to put a definitive end to the current season. A decision which must be taken in agreement with the European authorities, but the UEFA envisages rather a resumption of the competitions, behind closed doors, to partially limit the financial losses. As for countries that have already announced their end of the season, such as Belgium, “their cases will be examined by the executive committee,” said UEFA.
