Nationwide mass test from January 8th to 10th

The federal and state governments have agreed on a nationwide uniform date for one second mass test agreed: from January 8th to 10th, the population should undergo another test nationwide, additional days are planned in individual federal states.

New hotspots

After the mass test in January Hotspot districts introduced: From a certain incidence value (= number of corona positives per 100,000 inhabitants in the last seven days), nationwide tests are carried out in individual districts.

Kurz justifies the contact restriction on New Year’s Eve as follows: “New Year’s Eve parties would be a disaster for January.” In many European countries the bans are even stricter than in Austria.

Austria must “work very hard that the third wave does not hit us at the beginning of the new year”. However, it could be possible to use tests to prevent exponential growth, according to the Chancellor.

Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler says the federal government and the states want to “deepen” the test strategy. Until the vaccinations take effect, “the tests will continue to accompany us”.
