Nissan has confirmed the arrival of the e-Power series hybrid powertrain in Europe on the new generation of the Qashqai SUV scheduled for next year.
Absent in France for years, the series hybrid engine will return. The new generation Nissan Qashqai will be the first to adopt the e-Power engine. Used for several years in Japan on the small Note, the technology is very different from that used on Toyota’s hybrid cars. Where Toyota models use both engines, e-Power technology uses only one electric motor to drive the wheels. The petrol engine intervenes only to recharge the battery.
Hybrid e-Power, how does it work?
The brand gives more details than the first announcement of the Nissan Qashqai e-Power. The 1.5-liter generator gasoline engine will develop 157 horsepower. It will therefore supply the battery, supplying the electric unit with 140 kW (188 hp) and 330 Nm with energy. This is more than on the Note e-Power, whose electric unit is limited to 85 kW. In two-wheel drive, the Qashqai e-Power will offer 3 driving modes. It will also embed the one-pedal driving system already integrated in the Nissan Leaf.
The brand does not give values for consumption, CO emissions2. The 4.42 m hybrid SUV should be more greedy (because heavier) than the small Kicks e-Power consuming 4.6 l / 100 km. It will replace the old 150 hp diesel version.
The Nissan Qashqai e-Power will not be on the road until 2022. Before that, the Japanese SUV will land in 2021 with 140-160 hp micro-hybrid gasoline engines.
