With Breath of the Wild 2 still in production, the Zelda fans can still look forward to something this year. A reworked version of Skyward Sword coming to Nintendo Switch in July.
It’s the 35th anniversary of the Zelda franchise this year, but Nintendo hasn’t been able to properly celebrate it yet. Breath of the Wild 2 is still in the making and it has also remained very quiet in other areas. Now it appears that there is a remaster of it Skyward Sword coming to Nintendo Switch. Skyward Sword was released for the Nintendo Wii in 2011. Together with Twilight Princess the only Zelda titles on that console.
On Nintendo Switch, there have been some games with main character Link on the market in recent years. Via Nintendo Switch Online you can The Legend of Zelda on NES and A Link to the Past play on SNES. A reworked version of Link’s Awakening came out in 2019 and Breath of the Wild was a title that was sold upon release. Hyrule Warriors and sequel Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity are also both titles.
No classics from Nintendo64 or GameCube yet
By the arrival of Super Mario 3D All-Stars it was hoped that a similar version of Zelda would be released in the anniversary year. This with the titles Ocarina of Time (Nintendo64), Majora’s Mask (Nintendo64), The Wind Waker (GameCube) and Twilight Princess (GameCube / Wii). Of the last two titles, which appeared in HD version on Nintendo Wii U, there is not even a version to play on Switch. While that is the case for many titles of the Wii U.
In a year where a lot could have been done, video game enthusiasts are still hungry. Skyward Sword will definitely be out on July 16th, but that’s all that’s on offer right now. Although Nintendo wouldn’t be Nintendo if they didn’t suddenly come up with a surprise at the end of the year.
