While Elon Musk has just spoken about the evolutions of the Tesla Autopilot system, it is Lucid Air’s turn to provide an update on the DreamDrive device.
Coincidence or not, shortly after the boss of Tesla confides in the imminent arrival of a Level 5 autonomous driving system for his cars, Lucid takes over by revealing some details of his system.
Called DreamDrive, the driving assistance device for the next Lucid Air will make all phases of driving and everyday life easier with the electric sedan. The installation will provide 360 ° surveillance around the car to monitor the vehicle and its surroundings.
The Lucid Air will thus be able to offer no less than 19 functions to provide an autonomous driving system. The DreamDrive system consists of 32 sensors and cameras to continuously analyze situations and the environment. Unlike its Californian competitor, Lucid also trusts a laser detection LiDAR, still considered ugly and useless by Elon Musk. Using pulsed light, the radar “models” the environment to allow the car to better understand its surroundings.
More classically, we will note the presence of an adaptive regulator, an aid in keeping in the lane or reading signs. Autonomous parking assistant, panoramic surveillance, automatic emergency braking or lateral traffic protection will also be added.
Remember that the Lucid Air will arrive a little later than expected, with a presentation in 2021. Under its sulphurous dress concocted with some trendy design studios in Los Angeles, the Air will promise more than 640 km of autonomy thanks to its battery which should aim for 130 kWh of capacity.
